Alumni Spotlight: Alex Mann Damron, Class of 2014

The following is Part 1 of 2 SBS Alumni profiles on married couple Alex Mann Damron and Will Damron.

Alex Mann (Class of 2014) and Will Damron (Class of 2017) met at Stonebridge School about eight years ago. They didn’t really know each other at the time. Fast forward to 2019, when they reconnected at a Big House Church small group. Their friendship grew throughout the following years, and by May 2021, they knew their relationship had grown to more than just friendship. As they reflected, they realized they had been best friends for the past six months.

Even though he thought it might be risky to ruin a deep friendship, Will decided it would be worth the risk. On July 29, 2021, they decided to start dating officially. Soon after, on a snowy Virginia night, Will asked Alex if she would spend her life with him and she said “yes!” The couple married on August 6, 2022 at the Williamsburg Winery among a gathering of family and friends.

After leaving StoneBridge, Alex earned her degree in communications from Christopher Newport University in Newport News. She is now the Marketing and Outreach Manager at the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater, where she is responsible for all the marketing projects and campaigns. She keeps busy juggling social media, graphic design, and patient interaction, plus planning events on college campuses to help reach women in the community.

“Working in a ministry position has allowed me to show women in challenging situations the love of God and His people,” Alex said. “Throughout the past few years, I’ve had many different roles and it always comes back to relationships. I love fostering relationships with others and helping disciple them.

Alex attended StoneBridge School from Pre-K through 12th grade. Her favorite memories are of playing volleyball, including everything from the coaches, to the tournaments, to growing closer to all her teammates.

“Those are the stories I’ll tell my kids one day,” Alex said.

Alex notes that StoneBridge was instrumental in teaching the foundational, Biblical principles she still falls back on to this day. Despite the world continuing to legalize and normalize things that are in direct opposition to the Bible, her biblical worldview keeps her grounded in the knowledge that the truth that comes from the Lord will prevail in the end.

“It can be easy to fall into the patterns of the world when the majority around you do,” she pointed out. “Since my foundation is built on the Lord, it’s much easier to push back against what the world tells you is okay.”

Alex said her StoneBridge years taught her how to think critically and be a self-starter.

“What might have seemed insignificant at the time was continually shaping me behind the scenes,” she said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the teachers pushing me to do my best and strive for excellence.”

While she has been away from StoneBridge for eight years, Alex offered some words of wisdom for current students.

“It’s all going to be okay. There will be ups and downs, unknowns, wrong decisions and more. Life will throw a lot at you. You might feel like you have to make all your choices now and that you have to have your life all planned out,” she said. “Just remember, the Lord’s hand is upon you. He has created you and your passions. He knows the best path to take you on. It’s going to be bumpy but exciting. Strap in and remember this verse: For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:10.”

Alex believes her faith is the reason she has been able to lead.

“When the Holy Spirit is behind your decisions, others notice,” she said. “He opens doors that you wouldn’t be able to get in without Him. He puts you in rooms you wouldn’t be in without Him. If we submit to the Lord in our personal life and our marriage, submitting to Him in our leadership roles just follows naturally.”

Alex attends Big House Church in Virginia Beach, where she and Will occasionally help with the youth. She loves to read (a new passion), cook and bake. She recently received her certification in Eating Disorder Recovery, which has led her down a path of learning more about health and natural living.
